What To Bring
Please use this guide to help you prepare for your two-day summer orientation through the CHANCE Program
- Valid government-issued photo ID (current driver’s license, state ID, passport, U.S. military ID) to receive your NIU ID. Note: High School ID cards will not be accepted.
- Housing application and fee if not previously submitted.
- Financial Aid information previously requested of you.
- Sweater or light jacket because facilities are air-conditioned quite strongly.
- Change of clothing. There may be time for recreational activities so you may want to bring casual/active clothing.
- Comfortable walking shoes!
- Sunglasses and an umbrella--just in case of rain!
- Toiletries: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. (Residence hall staff will provide you with linens, towels, blankets, and pillows) and an iron if you think you need it.
- Spending money for soda pop or candy.
- Energy and Enthusiasm!!!
What NOT To Bring
- Calculators – calculators are not allowed during the math placement evaluation.
- Electronic devices (pagers, cell phones, calculators, etc.). These are not allowed in testing and registration areas and these items are too easily lost, misplaced, or stolen. The CHANCE Program is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles.
- Blanket, bed linens, pillow, and towel—these will be provided to you.
