CHANCE

Summer Orientation 2009

June 8 - July 16, 2009

Students should have received their acceptance letters including the "CHANCE Program Orientation Reservation Form." The completed form must be returned along with the $125 CHANCE orientation fee before a student can be scheduled for orientation. Questions may be directed to our office at (815) 753-0201, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

2009 Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June 8th to August 13th. Regular hours will resume on August 17th.

Once the fees are paid, the students will receive a two page letter verifying dates of attendance. They will meet their individual counselors, take their placement evaluations and attend many informative campus related presentations (Housing and Dining, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, etc..). Below are some important links and comments from students attending our orientation.

Please read some of the feedback we received from our students who came through our summer orientation last year:

What students thought to be MOST HELPFUL about the CHANCE 2-Day Summer Orientation Program:

  • The most helpful part of Orientation is when we meet with our counselors because they explain everything in detail.
  • The part where the representatives from the colleges came over.
  • NIU Academic Advisors.
  • All of it -- When the people from the different departments came over.
  • Testing.
  • The free time to relax.
  • Meeting the staff members and having a focus conversation with them.
  • My NIU I.D. and my courses.
  • Getting my classes together for the fall 2006 semester.
  • Finding out about the tutoring programs.
  • When the different Colleges broke down and explained what each means and what they do.
  • The Financial-Aid and the Student Loan Information.
  • Everything!

What students thought to be possible concerns about NIU before participating in the CHANCE 2-Day Summer Orientation Program:

  • That I would get a roommate that either I don't like or that they don't like me. Just someone I don't get along with.
  • The test and doing well on them.
  • None!
  • I thought it would be boring and a bunch of lectures.
  • None at all. I was fully confident in NIU and ESP-CHANCE since I was accepted.
  • How would my classes turn out & the CA's were very helpful.
  • I didn't know if I was going to have fun or get lost, but most of all I haven't shared a room with a roommate in years!
  • Would I be able to adjust.
