Sharing the information you have learned about balancing your budget or dealing with credit cards may prepare your student for dealing with money issues. You may want to request that your son or daughter talk to a loan officer at your bank, Students Legal Assistance or one of CHANCE's Financial Aid Counselors before they get a credit card.

Several common problems students encounter with credit cards are:
- Overspending: A good limit to set with yourself when using a credit card is to make sure you only spend what you can payoff within a months time.
- Make timely payments: Make sure you send you payment at least a week in advance or use autopay so that your monthly payment is automatically taken from your checking account. Usually there is a penalty if you make late payments or miss payments.
- It is easy to damage your credit. If you start to have problems with your credit card payments contact Student's Legal Assistance Immediately...waiting only makes matters worse.
