Student Development

1. Student Involvement

As a Parent ...

Students who get involved in campus activities and groups tend to perform better academically provided that students don't let the activities interfere with their academic priorities. Getting involved with groups on campus provides students with the opportunity to build friendships & networking opportunities as well as work on leadership skills.

As a Student ...

As the old saying goes...life is what you make it, so at NIU we hope you make it good! Students are encouraged to find academic friendly groups that allow them to maintain academic priorities. Please keep in mind that it may take time to find groups and activities that interest you so consider keeping an open mind and the willingness to explore and visit several groups. Talk to your counselor, classmates, professors or the dept you are seeking a degree from to find out about the various groups on campus.
